I have had a very good experience indeed with Macrium reflect, backing up an SSD with system on it win 7 before a firmware update of the SSD, which was a mandatory pre-firmware update backup Crucial SSD. By the way, very big amelioration of the SSD speed after this firmware update.
Another benefit Softpedia offer is to explicitly warn the user to be careful during installation, should the application contain PUPs. Hello Raymond. I thought you were lost to us. But, this is so timely!. Trying to make an image of drive c.. Since it was not compatible GPT why do they not follow the movement? Did they intend to do it? When we ran our imaging software tests a while back the speed and compression ratios of Driveimage XML were awful, you get the feeling from the program they have done very little to it apart from minor fixes etc for many years.
Yes, a great article. Perhaps I need more experience in cloning! One other item that some folks like to do is clean out all of the crud at least with CCleaner , check for empty folders, defrag, check for malware, etc. Thanks jasray, these three are pretty much our favorite free imaging apps, EaseUs ToDo is probably number 4 or 5 on our list. AOMEI is still relatively new but has been very good during all out tests over the months, which is why Paragon and EaseUs have been pushed down….
Hi all.. First of all thanks Ray for this article…at last I have found an article to backup your disk other than Ghost.. Anyway, just came across this wonderful site today that informed me of the lovely macrium software. I actually went ahead and purchased it. I had it verified, and i can browse through the backup no problem. The program lets you mount the image onto a virtual disc it can create for you temporarily to allow you to do this. I received an email in only about 15 minutes time showing ordering info, order number, license number and yes it did work , and contact info again, etc.
You pay for it, they give it to you. Very delighted I found this site. Ive always wanted to make an image of my C drive, but never successful, because Norton Ghost basically sucks.
I hate it. Too difficult to use too. This looks and sounds easy. Thanks Ray!! Good artical ray.. You just hit the spot. Have been looking for an alternative to Ghost for ages. EMBED for wordpress. Want more? Simply put, I want to make a copy of my system disk so that in case of a hardware failure, I could in a fast manner install the system from the backup and be up and running again like nothing happened. I run 2 disks in RAID1. But the jungle of versions out there does not make it easy for me and getting an old version of Ghost 8. So point me in the right direction please. Not sure about all versions that will do windows server but i can tell you what i have used.
Ghost and Ghost Solution Suite 2 ghost 11 work, ive used both many times with out issue. As Roadki11 suggests, and what I have used to ghost several Windows servers is Ghost Works like a charm. Thank you for your replies. I went straight to Ghost and it worked perfectly.
I do have a question however, though it is not Windows related at all. What is the purpose of installing Ghost if all you want to do is to backup the hard drive or restoring? I boot from the Ghost recovery disk when both creating an image and to restore, bypassing the installed Ghost all together.
I don't see any problem as long as the file system on the target and destination drive is supported. When you install Ghost you can make an image while the system is still running. No down time. Strictly speaking, the OS doesn't matter if you're performing basic imaging tasks.
