The screen shows a multi coloured pattern which you can ocassionally see movement through. Never had a problem with Vista. Monday, September 28, PM. Hi, The same issue for me. I'll try a clean reinstall of Windows 7, to run a DVD without installing anything else.
Best regards, Miguel. Thursday, October 8, AM. Hi, So I made a clean install of Win7 I mean without installing anything else, even the Windows auto updates Then I authorized the Windows updates, and 5 updates installed automatically. Then I had the issue again. I'm waiting for a complete solution of this issue prior migrating to Windows 7.
Best regards, Miguel Windows 7 Edition Integrale version d'evaluation 6. Wednesday, October 14, AM. Is anyone for Microsoft monitoring these threads? I am experiencing the same problem, and have seen numerous posts on this problem suggesting that it is easy reproducable.
I had it on Windows 7 since the version before the RTM and have it on the released version as well. With subtitles enabled it freezes after a couple of minutes, pressing the play button restarts the movie from the beginning. With no subtitles on, the problem does not occur. I used to run Vista Media Center on the exact same hardware without this problem. I can't find the particular update mentioned by Miguel in the post above so there isn't anything to remove.
No third party codecs or anything like that installed. Just a clean install of Windows 7 with all updates applied. This is a major show stopper for Windows 7 Media Center in countries that uses subtitles, which makes it pretty much unusable.
So, please Microsoft, give this some attention. Saturday, October 17, AM. I agree, and as win7 willl be officially released to the consumer market this week, I expect more complaints to show up. Stoneblueset, i might be mistaken but you don't seem the final RTM build I can't rollback the fixes you're mentioning. I have an nvidia system Saturday, October 17, PM. Hi, Miguel! Thanks for the useful information. Removed all of the windows updates and a few other software that were installed on that system, and still got to blank screen once the DVD playback starts.
Hi, Boostertje! Yes, I used to get a semi-frozen system with no audio or video. I could "ping" the node and initiate an RDP to the system , but never got to the desktop. Reset was the only way to get it out of that state. I guess, my issue is somewhat different from yours and JonasSam's. Another interesting observation: After I removed earlier Windows 7 installation, booted to Vista ultimate after months.
Thanks, SunnyM7. Monday, October 19, PM. I did a complete reinstall of the windows reformat drive etc. Sunday, October 25, AM. This does not help on my system, since I don't get this update on the official Windows 7 Home Premium version.
This is not a valid answer to this question! I have tried to clean boot, even after reinstalling the clean Windows 7 Home Edition, but the problem still occurs. The latest drivers are installed. Sunday, October 25, PM. GeForce GT here Worked flawlessy with Vista Media Center, no sign of problems when enabling subtitles.
As this error is not picked up by Windows Error Reporting, giving feedback through forums like this should be an important channel, so Microsoft, please give us some sign that actually do care about what we are talking about in forums that is hosted by you. Hi All, Thank you for keep reporting. Monday, October 26, AM. No problems in Vista ultimate. Tuesday, October 27, PM. Never had a problem with Media Center in Vista. Monday, November 2, AM. Sven, I tried your workaround, but no succes.
But when i try to play ripped DVD's from the local hard drive, i got the occasional "freezing" problem. Monday, November 2, PM. Maybe this is a workaround not a solution!!! Disable the themes in windows 7, by selecting the windows 7 default theme the one with the background with the large windows logo in blue color.
After that, play a dvd in media center, and check if the playback still freezes. It seems to have stopped on my pc I changed the theme to basic disable aero just to give it a try At this moment, nothing logged in the system eventlogs, so it's hard to 'proove' to the vidocard manufacturer that they need to investigate Tuesday, November 3, PM.
It will play Blurays directly through Media Center. I have very little other software on this computer as it is a new build. Tuesday, November 10, AM. I am hoping someone can shed some light on this problem with video playback. Video playback freezes after anywhere from 30 seconds to 15 minutes into a movie. Never happens with streaming video such as Netflix. With Vista the only thing I could do was do a hard reboot, but with Windows 7 I can move the mouse to hit the stop button.
After a few minutes the hard drive activity stops and I can hit play to continue the playback at least for another minutes until the hard drive goes crazy again and we do the same thing again. I've searched just about every forum website and have yet to get this issue figured out.
I have replaced every component of my system other than the case and hard drive. The Windows 7 is a clean install with minimal other software installed. This may be the smoking gun. I have disabled all screensavers, sleep mode, hard drive shutdown, indexing service was never enabled and problem persists. My original system only used a Athlon X2 so when it froze I could not get any response and had to hard reboot, but with the X4 CPU at least I can move mouse to hit the stop and wait for the HDD to settle down.
I upgraded to the X4 and a separate video card thinking that the problem was too much CPU load during playback. Do you think that may be the answer? Do you think this might be page file related due to the crazy HDD activity just before and after the freeze? Do you think there may be a connection?? Thanks HTPC. Thursday, November 12, PM. Tuesday, November 17, AM. Wednesday, November 25, PM.
I'd like to say it is new information or even a resolution but it isn't. My questions at the end can be similarly asked of Microsoft, who seem to have taken an interest in this thread on and off but not any others on this forum. Funny thing is the problem is so reproducible, maybe not in terms of known steps but at the very least in terms of regularity of the problem that I'm shocked it hasn't been resolved after God knows how long of it appearing in RC and perhaps before this.
Just because the circumstantial information points to an NVidia problem doesn't mean it's actually an NVidia problem. Regards, RalfyM. Tuesday, December 1, PM. Friday, December 11, PM. Sander Hi Sander! How did you disable the HDMI-audio? Was it under Sound Settings on the Control Panel? In that case I'm out of luck as I don't have that in my options I can play them in Windows Media Player in Windows 8. What do I need to do to be able to play these files? I'd like to upgrade to Win 10 as soon as I can.

Some of the recordings are only allowed to be played back on the PC it was recorded on as they have a digital license embedded in the file. This is fine but because of this the dvr-ms file cannot be converted to a different file format even on the same PC.
The only way I can see around this issue of supporting dvr-ms files is that Windows 10 had the Media Center dvr-ms playback software. In reply to philk05's post on January 11, Maybe they will add an APP at some time??? Best regards from Denmark In reply to TroelsBendtsen's post on January 12, Good luck!
